Substance Abuse

Women’s World
Historically, maternal substance abusers have been one of the most neglected populations of drug abusers in American society. However, studies have shown that providing high-quality services to this population can break the cycle of dependency in families plagued by this reality. The Women’s World program was launched in 1988 to remove the barriers that prevented women with children from accessing treatment services.

With the overriding treatment goals of restoring a client’s self-esteem, hope, and independence, participants in the Women’s World program attend weekly group and individual therapy sessions in which the staff utilizes a variety of counseling techniques and theories. The women ultimately acquire the tools and skills they need to maintain a drug-free lifestyle.

Because the program takes a “whole family” approach to wellness, the children of the women involved in the program work with family service coordinators (FSCs) who are very knowledgeable of the DHS system; they provide supportive services (such as visits with advocates and access to networks) to them. Many of these services are provided in the homes in the participants of the consumers.

Case Management services are available and include home visits, aid in acquiring outside resources and accessing various systems.

Women’s World is staffed by a psychologist, a Licensed Social Worker, Masters and Bachelor level clinical staff, and Program Support Specialists.
